Bands often ask the question “how can I get my band noticed?”. One obvious yet important factor is that you should love the music you create. If this is the case, you would be more passionate and motivated to let others know why your music is unique and special. Here are some tips for getting your band noticed:
Do not be afraid to work for free – Think of working for free as an opportunity to let others know how great your band is and for you to gain experience. To do this, check your local area for open mic nights. Open mic nights are a great way to gain experience because they provide the band with the opportunity to perform before a live audience. Make sure you call ahead and find out what the club provides before hand, so that you are not unpleasantly surprised.
Contact local clubs and pubs – Hand out fliers and business cards or just visit your local clubs and pubs, and let them know that you are interested in performing for them in the future. Make sure you take a copy of your press kit, business card, and a demo of your music. Once you bag some gigs, contact your local newspaper or magazine with the band’s details, the venues and times of your gigs.
Improve your PR skills – Make contacts with other band and audience members who are interested in your type of music. Chances are if a band is interested in your music they may let you be their opening act. Make sure you have sufficient business cards with current contact information with you. Also, remember to gather information from other more established bands that are similar to your genre. That way you could email them and ask if they are looking for an opening act.
