A bitter feud that has been going on for twenty years came to an end. Not quite the Hatfield and McCoy feud, but Nirvana’s Dave Grohl and Courtney Love finally made up at the 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony.
After Cobain’s death, Courtney Love became embattled with the surviving members. She felt that she was entitled to some of Nirvana’s success having been married to Cobain, who in her words “was Nirvana.” This gave way to a dispute that took place in 2001, over the dissolution of a liability company that was supposed to manage the band’s finances after their break up.
Love wrote an impassioned letter that led to a settlement.
She even accused Dave Grohl of trying to seduce her daughter in 2011. Both her daughter and Grohl vehemently denied the allegations, and Love subsequently rescinded her comments.
Love acknowledged that their history might lead to some bumpy roads prior to the big night. The surviving band mates were seated at the same table as Love, but it seemed that everything worked itself out in the end. Love took the stage, saying: “This is my family I’m looking at right now,” tears welling, “I just wish Kurt could have been here.”
Her and Grohl embraced on stage, Grohl looking visibly moved. There may still be issues to work out legally, but fans of the band are relieved to see things finally settling after a fight that would seemingly never end.
