Isn’t technology just the coolest thing? We have come so far. In the last 20 years we have evolved from cassettes and 8-tracks to completely digitized music that can be played out of any device with an internet connection, There is a near infinite number of online radio stations available for our listening pleasure at any time we want.
No more giant boom boxes or bulky cd players. Never thought I would see the day that the radio itself would be radio free. What was only possible with a device as large as a small dog 15 years ago is now child’s play for our cell phones that fit into our pockets without the slightest recognition.
We live in a time where the individual has complete musical freedom. Our tastes can be as wide as the North American continent, or as narrow as the eerie canal, and still have enough music to listen to that we would never have to hear the same song twice over the course of our entire lives. Want a station that has polka and pop hits? You better believe it’s out there. Want to listen to every kind of genre known to man except country music? You can do that and it is absolutely wonderful. Music is no longer just a leisurely indulgence. It is no engrained into our personalities. Any individual’s music taste is as unique as their very self. Next time you find yourself listening to internet radio, take a moment to appreciate how far we have come.
